Will Samsung bring back the flip phone?

Will Samsung bring back the flip phone?

8/15/2013

As far as cellphone trends go, the flip phone seems to be a relic of the past. At the very least, it's difficult to find flip models that have comparable features to many of today's smartphones. For this reason, even if you have a certain soft spot for these devices, you may have already made the switch to a more advanced gadget that gives you more important and convenient features.

However, eBay noted that there is still a strong argument to be made for flip phones, even with the wide array of smartphones available on the market today. Not only are flip phones typically less expensive than smartphones, but they tend to be highly durable and simple to use. The source pointed out that they also cut out the risk of accidental dialing - the bane of any smartphone owner's existence.

Bridging the gap
Clearly, there are benefits to owning either type of gadget, which surely leads many consumers to wonder if there's a way they can get the best of both worlds. According to CNET, Samsung might be planning to release a device that solves this very problem. The news provider cited a manual recently discovered by Japanese technology website RBMen which highlighted a phone called the Galaxy Folder. The rumored new model appears to be a standard flip phone at first glance, but it actually comes with a dual-sided touch screen.

CNET reported that in the manual, Samsung described the Galaxy Folder as having at least a 3.7-inch AMOLED display with an 800-by-400 resolution, and the technology also has a slot for a micro-SIM card and can function as a GPS. The device runs on a dual-core Snapdragon 400 processor and supports 4G LTE. However, the news provider pointed out that the manual did not propose a release date.

In a separate article, CNET stated that Blog of Mobile, a Chinese technology blog, reports that Samsung may also be working on another dual-screen device in addition to the Galaxy Folder. Known as the Hennessy, this gadget is expected to feature two 3.3-inch displays, a 5-megapixel rear camera and 1GB of internal storage. Additionally, the Hennessy is speculated to run Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and use a 1.2GHz processor.

Making the right choice
When selecting a phone, it's important to look at all the available options. The devices that are perfectly suited to one user might not be a great fit for another. Fortunately, there are still many options available to today's smartphone owners, and if the rumors about Samsung's possible works in progress are true, people may soon have even more choices to make.

Getting the right cellphone for your needs doesn't have to be a taxing process. By getting a plan from ProtectCELL that includes device buyback, you can make your selection whenever you need to, and without having to empty your bank account. ProtectCELL offers up to 50 percent of your current gadget's full retail value back within 12 months, and up to 25 percent back between months 13 and 24.
