The reviews are in: Is it worth it to upgrade to an iPhone 5S or 5C?

Whether you pre-ordered one of the latest iPhones or not, you're probably anxiously awaiting word from experts about whether Apple's newest innovation is worth the upgrade. Committing to a smartphone is an important choice, and it's usually for the long-term, so you have to be sure you're making the right decision. Fortunately, many of the recent iPhone 5S and 5C reviews have been glowing, to say the least.

A futureproof device
Anand Lal Shimpi, CEO of online computer hardware magazine AnandTech, was among the first individuals to release a formal review of the iPhone 5S, and Shimpi was clearly impressed with his experience trying out the gadget. He praised Apple's choice to transition to 64-bit with the new technology, which he said not only improves performance, but is a good step toward planning ahead for future iOS developments. Shimpi also noted the camera has improved, and Touch ID - the much-discussed fingerprint scanner - was "very well executed and a nice part of the overall experience." In the end, he called the iPhone 5S "futureproof," a term he suggested he is generally cautious about using. Shimpi explained that if you're looking to hold onto a smartphone for a long time to come, the iPhone 5S is a wise investment.

AllThingsD gave a favorable review to Apple's more high-end new release, similarly citing features such as the fingerprint scanner and camera. The source also noted the 64-bit processor is a big improvement, but it may take some time for users to realize just how big an advancement it really is, as a scant number of apps have been changed to leverage the additional power. Siri has also become more helpful, AllThingsD claimed, as the tool has been revamped with a more human voice and can get its answers from a wider pool of sources. One of the few downsides was that Apple hasn't done much to improve the keyboard, and the keyboard can't be replaced by third-party technology.

In terms of the more affordable and colorful iPhone 5C, CNET called the device "a cheaper iPhone that doesn't cut corners." The news provider added that the gadget seems to be much like an iPhone 5 underneath it all, which may be a drawback for people looking for pure power. However, CNET specified that when it comes to completing everyday tasks, the fact that the iPhone 5C isn't technically as advanced as the 5S is practically unnoticeable. The source stated that the brightly-colored design and complementary cases are attractive, and further, so is the Retina display, which equals the quality of the 5S.

So, if you're looking to upgrade from your current device, what are you waiting for? If money's an object, trading in your current smartphone is a great choice, and ProtectCELL can help.
